Pink Core at Sunset, a Chaser's Delight

Pink Core at Sunset, a Chaser's Delight

Returning to the eastern sky, this single-shot image, with the telephone pole and tree for scale, gives a better sense of the scale of the backlit updraft nearby. The entire sky was lit a myriad of yellows, pinks, oranges, and purples, from the LCL to the tropopause, with the sun hitting the precipitation just right at this particular time such that the precipitation core turned a pinkish purple. Taken near Stoneham, Colorado, June 15, 2013.
